They say the transmission needs to be rebuilt because the TORQUE CONVERTER is bad which is burning the oil (brown) and causing the grinding noise when accelerating. The 2.4 I4 had issues with VTC actuators, while V6 5AT had the infamous oil consumption and VCM disaster, so the only 8th Gen that's really safe to buy is the V6 6-speed Coupe, which is probably not on your list.
