The CR500 as example is a 500cc twostroke engine. This is no longer accurate, XRL would probably be a better name; in lineage that would make the Africa Twin a brother to the XR650L trail bikes. It's not actually a oversized CRF, it's an oversized XR. Racing bikes carry the "R" in the name, CRF450R, CBR1000R etc. 1100 refers to engine size.
